The Campus

BCI is part of the Brandeis-Bardin Institute, which is 3,000 acres of land about an hour northwest of Los Angeles, California. The land – and program – has a very kibbutz feel and many have compared it to Israel. It is, in fact, the largest piece of publicly-owned Jewish land in the world after Israel.

The BBI is a working ranch with countless hiking trails, camping areas, gardens, and wildlife. On any day you might see horses running down the hillside, wild cattle grazing, or peacocks wandering.

BCI is much nicer than the typical camp. BCIers sleep in cottages with two to three other participants of the same gender. Each gets a twin bed (no bunk beds) in a room that’s carpeted and air conditioned. Each room has its own bathroom with a toilet, shower, and two sinks. BCI is a very comfortable place to stay. BCI programs take place in beautiful buildings that are also carpeted and air conditioned and amidst gorgeous scenery of rolling hills, colorful flowers, and plenty of green trees. We have the luxury of an amazing kosher kitchen staff, which serves delicious kosher meals throughout the summer.

There is plenty to do during free time including swimming in the pool (during summer months), hiking/walking/jogging the trails, or using one of our sports facilities. We have basketball courts, volleyball, and softball/baseball and soccer fields. BCIers have also been known to start up an ultimate Frisbee or football game. We often also have opportunities for horseback riding or to climb the ropes and adventure course.
